Besides the amazing Great Wall, China has the marvelous City Wall of Xi'an. The wall was built during the Ming dynasty for protection from their enemies. The wall has four gates, the northern, southern, western, and eastern gate. The height of the wall is 39 feet; when the crew and I stand underneath, we were unable to see the heads of people walking on the wall.

It was a breath taking sight when we stood on top of the wall. The city of Xi'an was right before our eyes. We can see miles and miles away. Everywhere we look we can see the modern built houses that have a slight mix of Chinese tradition. We saw apartment buildings that reached really high in the sky. We can see the beautiful patterns of the roof tops, the amazing colors of art work on the beams of the houses, the blossoming trees, young scholars getting out of school, the city streets and parks. I couldn't put my camera down after seeing the beautiful view.

What made the trip even more exciting was riding bikes around the wall. Other bikers rode among us making this journey much more memorable. The amazing exercise and the beautiful weather made our experience peaceful and enjoyable.  The sun was shinning, the wind was cool against our skin and there's nothing we can do but smile at the wonderful moment we all shared, together. After we finished riding our bikes around the wall, we were surprised to learn that it was 9 miles long! We completed it in about 1 hour. That just made our experience more amazing and we all felt accomplished afterwards. Riding our bikes around the City Wall of Xi'an with the dazzling city on our side bought us closer to one another. At that moment riding our bikes, we felt more than alive.

  2. Biyu! Hope you're having fun. We miss you ! <3.. but anywho, That sounds really amazing. Like, I'm jealous...I find it crazy that you traveled 9 miles in 1 hour. Probably because you were on bikes, but that's not the point. Xi'an sounds so nice the way you've described it. I cant wait to hear more about your adventures in China on the future.

But knowing me, you know I need to ask how's the food? I'm a sucker for Chinese food so I can only imagine what it actually tastes like in China! But 9 miles in one hour? TEACH ME YOUR WAYS! Great to see you're enjoying yourself and can't wait to hear about it! See you soon!

  5. The city and bike ride all sounds amazing, but does it seem or feel strange to see the mixture of the modern clothing and buildings with the monuments and traditional buildings. I don't know, but it would seem kinda strange to me, anyway, Chinese 2 says hello! -CM

  11. Wow Biyu, I’m sure you’re all having a fantastic time. I’m with Annie, super jealous. As I was saying to Ms. Bilodeau, it’s really neat how even things like buildings can observe both the traditional and the modern in Chinese culture. As you said, although the majority of the high rises you observed from the City Wall were modern and recently put up, you could still pick out some “Chineseness” about them. That’s neat. I’m sure riding around the wall was an awesome experience. Nine miles too, that’s quite impressive for a school group. I wonder how that would have gone down last year with 22 people… On a more serious note, one of the coolest things I observed about China was how many bikers and scooterists there were in the city. Have you guys seen a lot too? I remember on one occasion we saw probably 300 plus on a bike/scooter rack. They’re everywhere on the roads. Vishesh somehow managed to nearly get run over multiple times one morning I recall. Be careful. At any rate have a great rest of your trip. Doug.

  12. It seems like you guys are having a great time, I would have loved to be there! It's interesting--your remark--how there's so much contrast between the historical sites of the city, and the modernity of the workplace and homes. It seems like you guys are having a wonderful time!

  14. Wow, Biyu, looks like you had quite the enchanting experience. I just want to comment on the fact that your blog post sounds so poetic with all the imagery involved that it makes me want to hop on the next flight to China. It seems like you felt something so strong while riding those bikes and you really portray that message effectively to us. I hope you have a great rest of your trip!

  15. You biked nine miles? Oh goodness, it must have been really beautiful if you didn't notice doing that much work! Also, I really hope you'll post pictures you took. The architecture sounds gorgeous, even if they might be a little blurry cause you're riding a bicycle.

  16. I wish I was there with you guys. Through your experiences I can imagine myself riding bikes around the Great Wall and the breeze blew by my cheeks. When I go back to China, riding bikes around the Great Wall will be one of the things I am going to exoerience.
